Where have you travelled?
I've spent time everywhere and even lived in Chicago and Seattle before moving back home. See my "Literary and Literal Adventures" blog from travels here and abroad at QuinnGoTeacher. You'll need the password provided in class.
Who are your favorite authors?
Lately my favorite authors are: Barbara Kingsolver, Celeste Ng, Ursula Le Guin, Einar Mar Gudmundsson, Carol Ann Duffy, Margaret Atwood, John Cheever, Franz Kafka, Donna Tartt, and Meg Wolitzer. Recently, I read The Sky is Everywhere by Shandy Nelson and The Orphan Master's Son by Adam Johnson.
Are you adventurous?
Well, at the age of 22, I packed up my car and moved to Seattle to find a job even though I had never been there. I once spent a week camping and rafting Level V rapids in Alaska during a Summer Solstice though I had never even tried a Level I route. I kayaked though glaciers while whale watching in Nova Scotia. And I'm not afraid to skydive on my own. Yes. I am adventurous.
What are your favorite foods?
It would be rare to see me without a cup of coffee in the morning. Chili hits the spot on our cold Wisconsin days. I love Indian food. Lately, I like to use the Nutribullet to blend spinach and vegetables.
What is on your Spotify?
I love live music and will travel to see concerts. On my playlist right now: Lumineers, Grateful Dead, Twiddle, Lake Street Dive, Dr. Dog, Joey Pecoraro, Sister Sparrow, Avett Brothers, Elle King, and just too many others to list.
Why do you teach?
I get to spend my days conversing with thoughtful young people about literature, philosophy, art, music, and the shared human experience. I feel lucky to be a teacher.
